This fragile stuff can sometimes be found hanging out with the red coral.

This stuff is not from Fiordland. It's a dead, bleached skeleton of the coral Oculina virgosa from the Three Kings Islands.
I include this photo here because the white coral from Fiordland looks very similar in form to this stuff.
