White coral

This fragile stuff can sometimes be found hanging out with the red coral.

Close-up of white coral above. I have no idea what this stuff is but it's interesting to compare it with the the photo below.





This stuff is not from Fiordland. It's a dead, bleached skeleton of the coral Oculina virgosa from the Three Kings Islands.

I include this photo here because the white coral from Fiordland looks very similar in form to this stuff.

This area offers some amazing diving including the legendary "The Gut".

Check out the those depths - 400m contours not far from shore and above water, dramatic 1000m peaks.
